On Valentine's Day, three years ago today, my daddy left this earth to join my mama in heaven. He joined her after her passing just nine months previous. We all thought it was such a fitting reunion for them to be rejoined on Valentine's Day. As a loving tribute to him & wonderful memory for me, I am posting the lyrics to a song that he always dedicated to me...it was OUR song. I cried the the first time I heard it & still cry everytime I hear it. Nothing could ever sum up our relationship any better than this.
"Daddy's Girl", sung by Red Sovine
I recall the night that you came into this world.
I couldn't believe the doctor when he said: "It's a little girl."
I said: "Now Doc, you must be wrong. You see I want a boy."
Then he laid you in my arms and my heart sang with joy.
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son.
Daddy's Girl.
I recall the day I took you to a baseball game.
You brought along your baby doll and half its' baby things.
We sat there a-playin' house, while the Dodgers played the Braves.
And ev'ryone in the bleachers looked at us as if to say.
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son.
Daddy's Girl.
I recall the day I took you on a fishin' trip,
You said: "Daddy won't that hook hurt the fishes' lips?"
And you said if they don't get air, those things in the can will die.
So we turned the worms all loose and chased some butterflies.
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son. Daddy's Girl.
I recall the day that your young man come to call.
Seems like only yesterday, you swam and played football.
But I know the time has come, that I must set you free.
But no matter where you are, you know what you are to me.
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son.
Daddy's Girl.
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl, I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son.
Daddy's Girl.
In loving memory of my father, Lamar Baird. I love you Daddy! ~~ Kecky

I love you Les! This song "so" fits you and your dad. I read the lyrics to your song and I can see you and your dad at any sports event. I was there for a few. His eyes would light up when he looked at you. You were absolutely "Daddy's Girl."
I know how much you miss both your mom and dad. I can see them sitting together in heaven...your mom with her glasses half way down her nose reading a good book and your dad reclined and watching TV. They always noticed when you and Wayne when you walked though the room, and your dad always had a smile for you. Some of my best memories are of your family and how nice they were to me. We were both blessed with great and loving parents. I have faith that we will see our mom's and your dad again some day.
